Careem began as a corporate car booking platform. Having initially started as a B2B service, Careem soon became the MENA’s leading ride-hailing app, scaling to over 70 cities across 10+ countries and raising over $700 million in funding. 

From our very first meeting, Mudassir and Magnus displayed a high degree of self awareness combined with intellect and urgency. They have since paved the way and inspired  many others to build from the region showing what’s possible when local insight meets global execution.

While many assumed Careem was simply copying Uber’s model, the founders began with an original thesis about mobility in the region. Their original thought allowed them to intelligently build with local nuances in mind, which eventually led to them dominating and winning in their core markets. 

In 2020, Careem was acquired by Uber for $3.1 billion, the region’s largest tech M&A transaction to date.
